Bossa nova was introduced in 1960 and was danced on the Bossa Nova music. Unfortunately it didn't get very popular and in the mid-sixties the dance faded out.
Bossa nova music is known for its soft and with sophisticated vocal rhythms and improvisations, which is good for listening, but not for dance music.
The style of basic dance steps suited the music, though. It was danced with gentle swaying of the hips while the body remains straight and almost without motion. It could be danced both solo and in pairs. Knees bend with each step, weight must remain evenly balanced on balls of each foot.
The fun in dancing the Bossa Nova is that the partners are not restricted to a certain pattern of steps. Partners are free to choose other steps to go with the music.
